1/10 scale Chris Craft Commander for sale. The owner is no longer involved with RC boating, and this model has been languishing in his basement for years. It’s been an old friend since 1982, but it’s time to part with it.
It was originally purchased from Maritime Hobbies when they were located in Scotia Square. It’s a Sterling kit, and, especially for its age, is in very good condition. It is equipped with two Mabuchi 540 motors, electronic speed & direction control, and 2 channel Futaba RC equipment which dates back to the boat purchase. When I originally built the boat, I fibreglassed the exterior of the hull, which I know has contributed to its longevity. Last summer I pulled it out of storage, gave it a general cleaning and replaced the old wets cells (motorcycle batteries) with twonnew 12 volt gel cells intended for emergency lighting systems. I have wired the receiver to run separately on its own 6 volt rechargeable supply. There are interior lights in the hull, but, being old incandescent type, I disconnected them because of their demand on the batteries. At this point, it has not been tested with the new batteries (which also serve as ballast), and it will require some location adjustment to get the correct trim.
Overall, it’s a rather elegant boat, and even in the model world, has a sense of majesty to it.The boat is very stable, and would be suitable for someone who is getting into the hobby.
I also have a display/storage cradle, a travelling cradle, and a hand-held sling for lowering it into the water. With those batteries aboard, it is heavy!
